I’ve had a hard life and had a lot throw at me over the years. I was born in 1954 in a car on the way to the hospital. I think trauma has always followed me from that. I’m not sure if it’s the root of it, but I’ve struggled with violence and rage for a lot of my early and middle aged life. It just used to burn in me. It’s been a long journey since that person though, practically a whole nother lifetime – a completely different Richard.
I want to tell me story because I think it can serve a lot of good for a bunch of people also struggling. I’ve had a lot thrown at me. I don’t want to exaggerate because I don’t think you’d believe me straight-off-the-bat – that’s why I’ve mapped it out in this book – Still Standing.
My kids are everything to me and it’s the strong connection of family that has kept me standing through everything. I’ve been able to trade that anger and violence for love and faith.

Still Standing: A Story of Resilience
